Let me ask you a question. Have you ever had a craving for something but didn’t know what you wanted? You go to the refrigerator and look and look and look. Nothing in there seems to be what you are looking for. You walk away and come back and look in the refrigerator again. You look in the cupboards. Nothing. Back to the refrigerator in hopes that something will have magically appeared since you last looked three minutes ago!
We’ve all done this at one time or another! Now think of your dating life or maybe your current relationship. If you’re dating, do you keep going back to the same places week after week in hopes that someone new and wonderful will show up?
If you’re in a relationship, are you thinking that you would like things to be different…better…and keep hoping and wishing that your partner will change?
You feel the frustration of not being able to find the right person to spend the rest of your life with. And, you’re convinced that there are no good men (or women) left out there! Sound familiar?

It’s time to change things up!
Rather than looking on the outside for your situation or your partner to change, take a look on the inside. Why is it you can’t find the right relationship? Why is it that your relationship isn’t satisfying to you? How may people have you dated and how many relationships have you been in? The common denominator in all your relationships is you! What is it that you are doing…or not doing…that causes you to settle for less than a great relationship?
Why are you expecting the whole world to change to suit your needs and desires? In my short 60+ years of life I’ve discovered that nothing will change unless I change. The same goes for you. Nothing in your life will change until you decide to change and do things differently.
You can’t continue to do what you’ve always done and expect different results. That’s the definition of insanity.
Be proactive in becoming an extraordinary person. Make sure you’re taking care of your physical health. Be vigilant at taking care of your mental and emotional health. Studies have shown that the most successful and happiest people (inside and outside of business) read at least one book a month. They have an attitude of gratitude. These studies also show that the happiest people have a heart for serving others.
As we come to the mid-point of the year, it’s time to look back and see what you’ve accomplished so far this year. Have you grown emotionally and intellectually? What did you do well and where can you improve? Are your New Year’s resolutions still a part of your daily routine or did they fall by the wayside by mid-February?
Whatever you recognize needs to change in your life can be changed. It’s just a matter of making the decision. Once you’ve made the decision then it’s time to take action. Some changes can seem overwhelming at the beginning. Don’t let this stop you or frustrate you. Start with baby steps. One small thing at a time.
Don’t forget to celebrate your accomplishments along the way!
You deserve a pat on the back from time to time as you progress to your ultimate goal. This is something I need to get better at myself. It’s easy to work, and work, and work and not recognize how far you have come. Without celebrating some of the milestones along the way, it’s easy to become frustrated because all we see is the long road ahead. Sometimes you just have to stop and turn around, look back and amaze yourself with how far you’ve come.
I hope this motivates you to take a look at the things you can control and make the changes that are right for you.
