#168 - The sex is great... or is it?
Sex before marriage. Should you, or shouldn’t you?

Believe it or not, this can be an emotionally charged subject. There is so much to consider here that I could literally write a book about it. However, because of this format, I’m just going to hit on a couple of important highlights.
What I’ve found is that most people don’t want to learn about healthy relationships. They just want to be in the moment and go with it!
At virtually every speaking event or seminar I host, someone gets upset that I suggest that they should wait to have sex. Surprisingly…at least to me, is that women are as vocal about it as men. And surprisingly, the reason women give is that they want to make sure everything is in working order before committing to marriage or a long-term relationship!
When you do make plans to become intimate, be safe. I highly recommend that you both get tested for STDs and share the results with your partner. This one step should make you really think about how serious you are to jump into bed with someone.
Finally, study after study shows that sleeping with someone too soon doesn’t make a relationship stronger. The facts show just the opposite. If you think you want to strengthen your relationship, spend time getting to know your partner.
Get to know more than the superficial stuff that anyone can find on social media. Find out what’s important in their life. What are their goals? What are their dreams? What are they looking for in a relationship? Do you share common interests? Develop an intellectual, spiritual and emotional connection before you get sexually involved.
Hopefully this has given you some food for thought in hopes that you can avoid one of the biggest and most common dating mistakes.
