#384 - The Parable of the Two Gardens: Patience and Finding an Extraordinary Relationship
If you have ever listened to me or read my blogs, you’ll know that I’m continually preaching about not settling for less than your extraordinary relationship.
This week I came across a great story, a parable, about the importance of patience. Hopefully this will connect with someone that really needs to hear this.
The Story of Two Gardeners
In a small village, there were two gardeners, Emma and Lily, who each inherited a patch of land. Emma was eager to see her garden flourish, so she hastily planted seeds she found lying around—some were weeds, some were flowers, and some were unknown. She tended to her garden with care, but soon the weeds overran the flowers, and the garden became tangled and chaotic. While it bore fruit, the fruit was often bitter, and the flowers were choked by the weeds, unable to bloom to their full potential.
Lily, on the other hand, took her time. She carefully selected the seeds she would plant, ensuring they were of the finest quality. She prepared the soil, waited for the right season, and when the time was right, she planted her seeds. Her garden took longer to grow, but when it did, it was a sight to behold—vibrant, harmonious, and full of life. The fruits were sweet, and the flowers bloomed brilliantly, bringing joy not just to Lily but to everyone who passed by.
The Lessons of Patience in Love
Years later, Emma looked at her garden with regret. Though she had put in effort, her haste led her to settle for whatever seeds were available, and her garden never reached its full potential. Lily’s garden, however, was a testament to patience and discernment. It was a place of beauty and peace, where every plant had its purpose, and every bloom enhanced the next.
How to Cultivate an Extraordinary Relationship
The village elders, who had watched both gardens grow, shared this wisdom with the younger generation: "A hurried heart settles for what is easy, but a patient soul finds what is worthy. In love, as in the garden, do not rush to fill the empty spaces with just anyone. Wait for the one who will help you bloom, for the relationship that enhances your life, like the carefully chosen seeds in a well-tended garden. Only then will you find the peace and fulfillment that a true partnership brings."
And so, the villagers learned the importance of waiting for the right person—the one who would not just fill the void but would nurture their soul, helping them grow into the fullness of who they were meant to be. ~ Author Unknown
